There is a science to music. The right song can elevate the mind to a different place. It brings us backward and forward. It pushes up deep into the past, and connects us with fragments of who we once were. Some fleeting memory. Maybe it was an autumn day inside to the tune of the Glen Miller. Or a first date with the Fontaine Sisters over the juke box down at the corner diner. Music has an immense power to shape our overall moods and our life decisions. We are drawn to it, we are moved to it, and we are propelled by it.
Over the past five decades, psychological and clinical research has explored the science behind this incredible force, and the reasons for why it has the captivating intellectual power it does. This has laid the foundation for standardized methods and best practices geared toward the utilization of music as a tool for cognitive stimulation as well as tapping into memories. All of these vital components encompass the practice of music therapy.
I am a board certified Music Therapist who is accredited by the American Music Therapy Association as well as the Chapman University School of Music. Over the past three decades I have worked in the field of psychology and music as a force for invigoration in end of life care, psychological healing, and intellectual cognitive stimulation. I have used music to help thousands of families through hospice - whether it be toward a better life or toward the afterlife. I have been touched by their stories, their laughter and their losses. I have guided them on a melodic journey through their pasts, helping them remember the beauty of life. I've always been passionate about what I do because it is vital to the health and overall well being of my patients.
